Scanning and Archiving from Transparencies, Negatives original prints or artwork

Page 1/3

Please note: this is a complicated subject, occupying a substantial part of our business and resulting in a unique expertise that we have accumulated over the last 20 years. We have attempted to explain below the main categories of art/reproduction work that we can provide, as experience tells us that many customers are confused as to what can be done.

If, after you have read through these pages, you still have questions about the work that you would like us to do for you, please telephone our Production Manager Barry Warren who will assist in preparing your quotation.

If you want photographic or reproduction advice that is not related to proposed actual work we suggest you join one of our courses, in which case please contact our Gallery Manger Julia Leatherwood for details.

Scans are in RGB mode, saved as a PC Tiff file, unless otherwise agreed. Each transparency/negative scanned/artwork reproduced will be written to disc as a basic RGB scan, adjusted for acceptable density on our screen.

Please note: Scanning does NOT include detailed artistic retouching, correction or enhancement of the scanned file. This additional service is provided at £30 per hour and can substantially improve the appearance of poorly exposed, damaged, old or historic originals as well as many other enhancements, e.g. removing unsightly wires, poles, correcting converging verticals etc and much more. Please specify what additional work you would like done at the time of ordering your scans/reproductions.

We can also design greeting cards, brochures, posters, advertising and display boards and provide giant enlargements on lightfast paper up to 44inches x 5metres, together with reproduction, mounting, lamination and framing of artwork. The quality of such large reproductions is limited by the quality of the original digital file, on which we can advise.

Please note. Material must be provided with the permission of the copyright holder. Material must be free from damage and dirt; our cleaning is limited to anti-static treatment and air dusting. It is much safer to remedy defects digitally rather than risk damaging an original.

While all normal precautions are taken, no responsibility is taken for the loss or damage of any material supplied to Wight Light Gallery for copying or printing or for any copyright issues relating thereto, indemnity for which is agreed to by the customer when requesting a scan/reproduction.
